PREFERRED LIES (MLR E3)

A ball lying on a closely – mown area (fairway height or less) in the General Area may be lifted without penalty, and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the Player must mark its position. If the Player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it or moves the ball in any other manner, such as rolling it with a club, he/she incurs a penalty of one stroke.

The Player’s caddy may lift, clean and replace the ball under this rule, but only when authorised by the player to do so, by an action or statement of intent to take relief under this rule.(Refer Rule 14.1b).
